Psalm 5
For the music director, with the flutes. A Psalm by David.
1Open your ear to my words, YHWH.
Consider my lament.
2Pay attention to the sound of my cry, my King and my God,
for I pray to you.
3YHWH, in the morning you will hear my voice.
In the morning I will lay my requests before you and watch expectantly.
4For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness.
Evil cannot dwell with you.
5The arrogant cannot not stand in your sight.
You hate all who practice iniquity.
6You will destroy those who tell lies.
YHWH abhors bloodthirsty and deceitful people.
7But I, by the abundance of your lovingkindness, will come into your house.
I will bow toward your holy temple in reverence of you.
8YHWH, lead me in your righteousness because of my enemies.
Make your way straight before my face.
9For there is no faithfulness in their mouth.
Their heart is destruction.
Their throat is an open grave.
They flatter with their tongue.
10Declare them guilty, God.
Let them fall by their own devices.
Banish them for their abundant transgressions,
for they have rebelled against you.
11But let all those who take refuge in you be glad.
Let them always shout for joy
May you shelter them.
that those who love your name may be joyful in you.
12For you will bless the righteous.
YHWH, you will surround them with favor like a shield.
