Greeting

2 Timothy 1

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of the life which is in Christ Jesus, to Timothy, my beloved child:

Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

Thanksgiving Prayer

I thank God, whom I serve as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience. I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day, longing to see you, remembering your tears, so that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of the sincere faith within you, which lived first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and, I am convinced, is in you also.

A Charge to Timothy

For this reason, I am reminding you that you should rekindle the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God didn’t give us a spirit of timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. So don’t be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner. Instead, join with me in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not through our works, but through ʜɪꜱ own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before times eternal, but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. For this gospel I was appointed as a herald, apostle, and teacher, and this is the reason I am suffering. But I am not ashamed, because I know ʜɪᴍ whom I have believed, and I am convinced that ʜᴇ is able to guard my deposit until that day.

You are to hold to the pattern of sound words that you heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus, and, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, guard the beautiful deposit given to you.

You know that everyone in the province of Asia turned away from me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes. May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains, but when he was in Rome, he diligently searched for me and found me. May the Lord grant that he will find the Lord’s mercy on that day. And you know very well all the ways he served me in Ephesus.
