The Appointed Feasts

Leviticus 23

YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, “You are to speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘These are the appointed feasts of YHWH, which y’all are to proclaim to be holy assemblies.

“‘Work may be done for six days, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy assembly. Y’all are not to do any kind of work. It is a Sabbath to YHWH in all y’all’s dwellings.

“‘These are the appointed feasts of YHWH, even holy assemblies, which y’all are to proclaim in their appointed season. In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month in the evening, is YHWH’s Passover. On the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread to YHWH. Y’all must eat unleavened bread for seven days. In the first day y’all are to hold a holy assembly. Y’all must not to do any regular work. Y’all are to present a burnt offering to YHWH for seven days. On the seventh day there will be a holy assembly. Y’all must not do any regular work.’”

YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, “You are to speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘When y’all have come into the land which I am giving to y’all, and reap its harvest, then y’all are bring the sheaf of the first fruits of y’all’s harvest to the priest. He will wave the sheaf before YHWH, to be accepted for y’all. The priest is to wave it on the day after the Sabbath. On the day when y’all wave the sheaf, y’all are to offer a male lamb without defect a year old for a burnt offering to YHWH. The grain offering with it is to be two tenths of an ephah+23:13 1 ephah is about 22 liters or about 2/3 of a bushel of fine flour mixed with oil, a food offering for YHWH for a pleasant aroma; and the drink offering with it is to be a quarter of a hin of wine.+23:13 A hin is about 6.5 liters or 1.7 gallons. Y’all must not eat bread, or roasted grain, or fresh grain, until this very day when y’all bring the offering to y’all’s God. This is a permanent

“‘Y’all are to count seven complete weeks from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that y’all brought the sheaf of the wave offering. Y’all are to count fifty days until the day after the seventh Sabbath, and then y’all are to offer a new grain offering to YHWH. Y’all are to bring from y’all’s dwellings two loaves of bread for a wave offering made from two-tenths of an ephah+23:17 1 ephah is about 22 liters or about 2/3 of a bushel of fine flour. They are to be baked with yeast as first fruits to YHWH. Along with the bread, y’all are to present seven unblemished year-old lambs, one young bull, and two rams. They will be a burnt offering to YHWH, together with their grain offering and their drink offerings, a food offering made of a sweet aroma to YHWH. Y’all must prepare one male goat for a sin offering, and two male lambs a year old for a sacrifice of peace offerings. The priest is to wave them with the bread of the first fruits for a wave offering before YHWH, with the two lambs. They will be holy to YHWH for the priest. Y’all are to make proclamation on the same day that there will be a holy assembly for y’all. Y’all not to do any regular work. This is a perpetual statute in all y’all’s dwellings throughout y’all’s generations.

“‘When y’all the harvest of y’all’s land, you must not completely reap into the corners of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. You are to leave them for the poor and for the foreigner. I am YHWH y’all’s God.’”

YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, “You are to speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, there is be a solemn rest for y’all, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy assembly. Y’all must not do any regular work, but y’all must present a good offering made to YHWH.’”

YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, “However the tenth day of this seventh month is the day of atonement. It is to be a holy assembly for y’all. Y’all are to humble yourselves* and present a food offering to YHWH. Y’all are not to do any kind of work on that day, for it is a day of atonement, to make atonement for y’all before YHWH y’all’s God. For whoever it is who does not deny themself in that same day will be cut off from their people. Whoever does any kind of work on that day, I will destroy that soul from among their people. Y’all must not do any kind of work: it is a permanent statute throughout y’all’s generations in all y’all’s dwellings. It will be a Sabbath of solemn rest for y’all, and y’all are to humble yourselves*. In the ninth day of the month, from evening to evening, y’all are to observe y’all’s Sabbath.”

YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, “You are to speak to the children of Israel, and say, ‘On the fifteenth day of the seventh month is the Feast of Booths for seven days to YHWH. The first day is to be a holy assembly. Y’all must not do any regular work. For seven days y’all are to present food offerings to YHWH. On the eighth day, there is to be a holy convocation for y’all, and y’all are to offer a food offering to YHWH. It is a solemn assembly, and y’all are not to do any regular work.

“‘These are the appointed feasts of YHWH which y’all are proclaim to be holy assemblies, to offer a food offering for YHWH, a burnt offering, a grain offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, each on its own day— in addition to the Sabbaths of YHWH, to y’all’s gifts, to all y’all’s vows, to y’all’s free will offerings, which y’all give to YHWH.

“‘So on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, after y’all have gathered the fruits of the land, y’all are to celebrate the feast of YHWH for seven days. There will be a solemn rest on the first day and on the eighth day. On the first day, y’all are to take the fruit of majestic trees, branches of palm trees, and boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook, and y’all are to rejoice before YHWH y’all’s God for seven days. Y’all are to celebrate it as a feast to YHWH seven days each year. It is a permanepermanent statuteughout y’all’s generations. Y’all are to celebrate it in the seventh month. You are to live in temporary booths for seven days. All who are native-born in Israel are to live in temporary booths, so that y’all’s generations may know that I made the children of Israel live in temporary booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt. I am YHWH y’all’s God.’”

So Moses declared to the children of Israel the appointed feasts of YHWH.
