The Beast from the Sea

1Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on its horns were ten crowns, and on its heads, a blasphemous name. 2The beast that I saw resembled a leopard, and his feet were like a bear’s, and its mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3One of its heads looked like it had been butchered to death, but its death wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled at the beast. 4They worshiped the dragon because it gave authority to the beast. And they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to wage war against it?”

5The beast was given a mouth speaking greatness and blasphemy, and it was given authority for forty-two months. 6It opened its mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme ʜɪꜱ name, ʜɪꜱ dwelling place, and those who dwell in heaven. 7It was also given to the beast to make war with the saints and to conquer them, and it was given authority over every tribe, people, tongue, and ethnic group. 8All those who dwell on the earth will worship it, everyone whose name has not been written in the scroll of life of the Lamb who has been butchered from the foundation of the world. 9If anyone has ears, let them hear.

Here is the perseverance and the faith of the saints.

The Beast from the Earth

11I saw another beast ascending from the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon. 12It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence. It makes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed. 13It makes great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to the earth in the presence of humans. 14It deceives those who dwell on the earth because of the signs it was given to do in presence of the beast, saying to those who dwell on the earth that they should make an image of the beast who had the sword wound but lived. 15It was given power to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast could speak and make all those who did not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16It makes all, the small and the great, the rich and the poor, and the free and the slave, to be given marks on their right hands or on their foreheads 17so that no one would be able to buy or to sell unless they have the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name. 18Here is wisdom: Whoever has understanding, let them compute the number of the beast, for it is the number of humanity. Its number is 666.
