Psalm 9
For the music director. Set to “The Death of the Son.” A Psalm by David.
1I will give thanks to YHWH with my whole heart.
I will tell of all your marvelous works.
2I will be glad and rejoice in you.
I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.
3When my enemies turn back,
they stumble and perish in your presence.
4For you have upheld my just cause.
You are seated on the throne judging righteously.
5You have rebuked the nations.
You have destroyed the wicked.
You have blotted out their name forever and ever.
6The enemy is overtaken by endless ruin.
You have uprooted their cities,
The memory of them has perished.
7But YHWH sits forever
on the throne for judgment ʜᴇ has established.
8Hᴇ governs the world in righteousness.
Hᴇ judges the peoples with fairness.
9YHWH is a high tower for the oppressed;
a high tower in times of trouble.
10Those who know your name will put their trust in you,
for you, YHWH, have not abandoned those who seek you.
11Y’all sing praises to YHWH, who dwells in Zion,
y’all declare among the people what ʜᴇ has done.
12For the one who avenges blood remembers them.
Hᴇ does not ignore the cry of the afflicted.
13Have mercy on me, YHWH.
See my affliction by those who hate me,
and lift me up from the gates of death,
14that I may declare all of your praise,
at the gates of Daughter Zion I will rejoice in your salvation.
15The nations have fallen into the pit they made.
Into the net they hid, their own foot has been caught.
16YHWH has made ʜɪᴍꜱᴇʟꜰ known.
Hᴇ has executed judgment.
The wicked is snared by the work of ʜɪꜱ own hands. Meditation. Selah.
17The wicked will return to Sheol,
all the nations that forget God.
18For the needy will not always be forgotten,
nor the hope of the poor perish forever.
19Rise up, YHWH! Don’t let mortal humans prevail.
Let the nations be judged in your sight.
20Put terror in them, YHWH.
Let the nations know that they are only mortal humans. Selah.
