Boundaries of Canaan

1YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, 2“You are to command the children of Israel and tell them, ‘When y’all enter the land of Canaan, the land that will fall to y’all with these borders: 3Y’all’s southern side will be from the wilderness of Zin along by the side of Edom, and y’all’s southern border will be from the end of the Salt Sea eastward. 4Y’all’s border will turn south of the Scorpion Ascent, pass along to Zin, and pass south of Kadesh Barnea. Then it will go from there to Hazar Addar, and pass along to Azmon. 5The border will turn about from Azmon to the brook of Egypt, and it will end at the sea.

6“‘Y’all’s western border will be the coast of the Great Sea. This will be y’all’s western border.

7“‘This will be y’all’s northern border: y’all are to draw a line from the Great Sea to Mount Hor. 8From Mount Hor y’all are to draw a line to the entrance of Hamath, and the border will pass by Zedad. 9Then the border will go to Ziphron and end at Hazar Enan. This will be y’all’s north border.

10“‘For y’all’s eastern border, y’all are to draw a line from Hazar-enan to Shepham. 11The border will go down from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain. The border will go down and reach to the side of the sea of Chinnereth eastward. 12The border will go down to the Jordan and end at the Salt Sea. This will be y’all’s land according to its borders on all sides.’”

13Moses commanded the children of Israel, saying, “This is the land which y’all will inherit by lot, which YHWH has commanded to give to the nine tribes, and to the half-tribe; 14for the tribe of the children of Reuben according to their fathers’ houses, the tribe of the children of Gad according to their fathers’ houses, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance. 15The two tribes and the half-tribe have received their inheritance beyond the Jordan at Jericho eastward, toward the sunrise.”

16YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, 17“These are the names of the men who will divide the land to y’all for inheritance: Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun. 18Y’all are to take one leader of every tribe to divide the land for inheritance. 19These are the names of the men: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh. 20Of the tribe of the children of Simeon, Shemuel the son of Ammihud. 21Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon. 22Bukki the son of Jogli, a leader from the tribe of the children of Dan. 23From the children of Joseph: Hanniel the son of Ephod, a leader from the tribe of the children of Manasseh. 24Kemuel the son of Shiphtan, a leader from the tribe of the children of Ephraim. 25Elizaphan the son of Parnach, a leader from the tribe of the children of Zebulun a prince. 26Paltiel the son of Azzan, a leader from the tribe of the children of Issachar. 27Ahihud the son of Shelomi, a leader from the tribe of the children of Asher. 28Pedahel the son of Ammihud, a leader from the tribe of the children of Naphtali.” 29These are they whom YHWH commanded to divide the inheritance to the children of Israel in the land of Canaan.
