Additional Laws for Offerings

Numbers 15

YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, “You are to speak to the children of Israel and tell them, ‘When y’all have come into the land I am giving to y’all to live in, and y’all will make a food offering to YHWH of the herd, or of the flock—a burnt offering, or a sacrifice, to fulfill a vow, or as a free will offering, or at y’all’s appointed feasts, to make a pleasant aroma to YHWH— then the one who presents their offering is to present to YHWH a meal offering of one tenth of an ephah+15:4 1 ephah is about 22 liters or about 2/3 of a bushel of fine flour mixed with one fourth of a hin+15:4 A hin is about 6.5 liters or 1.7 gallons. of oil. You are to prepare wine for the drink offering, one fourth of a hin, with the burnt offering or for the sacrifice, for each lamb.

“‘For a ram, you are to prepare for a meal offering two tenths of an ephah+15:6 1 ephah is about 22 liters or about 2/3 of a bushel of fine flour mixed with the third part of a hin of oil; and for the drink offering you are to offer the third part of a hin of wine, of a pleasant aroma to YHWH. When you prepare a bull for a burnt offering or for a sacrifice, to accomplish a vow, or for peace offerings to YHWH, then he is to offer with the bull a meal offering of three tenths of an ephah+15:9 1 ephah is about 22 liters or about 2/3 of a bushel of fine flour mixed with half a hin of oil; and you are to offer for the drink offering half a hin of wine. It is a offering made by fire, a pleasant aroma to YHWH. This is to be done for each bull, ram, male lamb, or young goats. Y’all must do so for each one according to the number that y’all are preparing.

“‘Everyone who is native-born is to do these things in this way, in presenting an offering made by fire as a pleasant aroma to YHWH. Throughout y’all’s generations, when a foreigner living among y’all or anyone else presents a food offering as a pleasant aroma to YHWH, they must do as y’all do. For the assembly is have one statute for y’all and for the foreigner who lives among y’all, a permanent statute throughout y’all’s generations. The foreigner and y’all and will be the same before YHWH. There is to be one law and one ordinance for y’all and for foreigner who lives with y’all.’”

YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, “You are to speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘When y’all come into the land where I am bringing y’all, and y’all eat of the bread of the land, y’all are to present an offering to YHWH. Y’all must offer up a cake from the y’all’s first dough as an offering. Like an offering from the threshing floor, y’all are to offer it. Throughout y’all’s generations, y’all are to give an offering to YHWH from the first of y’all’s dough.

Offersings for Unintentional Sins

“‘When y’all sin unintentionally, and y’all don’t observe all these commandments which YHWH has spoken to Moses— all that YHWH has commanded y’all through Moses, from the day that YHWH commanded it and onward throughout y’all’s generations— then if it was done unintentionally without the knowledge of the congregation, then all the congregation is to offer one young bull for a burnt offering as a pleasant aroma to YHWH, with its meal offering and its drink offering, according to the ordinance, and one male goat for a sin offering. The priest will make atonement for all the congregation of the children of Israel, and they will be forgiven, because it was unintentional. They have brought their offering, a food offering for YHWH, and their sin offering before YHWH, for their unintentional sin. All the congregation of the children of Israel will be forgiven, as well as the foreigner who lives among them, for with regard to all the people, it was unintentional.

“‘If just one person sins unintentionally, then that person is offer a year old female goat as a sin offering. The priest will make atonement for the person who errs by sinning unintentionally before YHWH. When he makes atonement, that person will be forgiven. Y’all are to have one law for anyone who sins unintentionally, for the native-born among the children of Israel and the foreigner who lives among them.

“‘But the soul who does anything with a high hand, whether he is native-born or a foreigner, blasphemes YHWH. That soul must be cut off from among his people. Because he has despised the word of YHWH, and has broken his commandment, that soul will be cut-cut off. His iniquity will be on him.’”

Death for the Sabbath-Breaker

While the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day. Those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation. They put him in custody, because it had not been declared what should be done to him.

YHWH said to Moses, “The man must put to death-death. All the congregation will stone him with stones outside of the camp.” All the congregation brought him outside of the camp, and stoned him to death with stones, as YHWH commanded Moses.

Tassels on Garments

YHWH spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them that they should make themselves fringes+15:38 or, tassels (Hebrew צִיצִ֛ת) on the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put on the fringe+15:38 or, tassel of each border a cord of blue. This is to be a tassel for y’all to look at and remember all YHWH’s commandments and obey them and not prostitute yourselves by following y’all’s own heart and y’all’s own eyes. Then y’all will remember and do all my commandments and be holy to y’all’s God. I am YHWH y’all’s God, who brought y’all out of the land of Egypt, to be y’all’s God: I am YHWH y’all’s God.”
