Joshua’s Farewell to the Israel’s Leaders

1After many days, when YHWH had given rest to Israel from their enemies all around, and Joshua was old and well advanced in years, 2Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders and for their heads, and for their judges and for their officers, and said to them, “I am old and well advanced in years. 3Y’all have seen all that YHWH y’all’s God has done to all these nations because of y’all, because it was YHWH y’all’s God who fought for y’all. 4Look, I have allotted these nations that remain to y’all, to be an inheritance for y’all’s tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even to the great sea toward the going down of the sun. 5YHWH y’all’s God will drive them out from before y’all, and drive them from out of y’all’s sight. Y’all will possess their land as YHWH y’all’s God promised y’all.

6“Therefore y’all are to be very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, without turning away from it to the right hand or to the left, 7so that y’all do not come among these nations, these that remain among y’all. Y’all must not invoke the name of their gods, or swear by them, or serve them, or bow down to them. 8Instead, but y’all are to cling to YHWH y’all’s God, as y’all have done to this day.

9“For YHWH has driven great and strong nations out from before y’all. But as for y’all, no one has stood before y’all to this day. 10One of y’all routs a thousand, for it is YHWH y’all’s God who fights for y’all, as ʜᴇ promised y’all. 11So y’all are to guard y’all’s souls very carefully, so that y’all love YHWH y’all’s God.

12“But if y’all turn-turn back and cling to the remnant of these nations who remain among y’all, and y’all intermarry with them, and associate with them, and they with y’all; 13y’all need to know-know that YHWH y’all’s God will no longer drive these nations from before y’all. Instead they will be a snare and a trap to y’all, a scourge in y’all’s sides, and thorns in y’all’s eyes, until y’all perish from this good land which YHWH y’all’s God has given y’all.

14“Look, today I am about to the way of all the earth. Y’all know in all y’all’s hearts and in all y’all’s souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which YHWH y’all’s God spoke concerning y’all. Everything was fulfilled for y’all. Not one thing has failed. 15But just as all the good things have come on y’all that YHWH y’all’s God promised y’all, so YHWH will bring on y’all all the evil things, until ʜᴇ has destroyed y’all from off this good land which YHWH y’all’s God has given y’all, 16If y’all violate the covenant of YHWH y’all’s God, which ʜᴇ commanded y’all, and go and serve other gods, and bow down to them, then YHWH’s anger will be kindled against y’all, and y’all will perish quickly from the good land which ʜᴇ has given to y’all.”
