The Ark Placed in the Tent
1 Chronicles 16They brought in the ark of God, and set it in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God. When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of YHWH. He gave to everyone of Israel, both man and woman, to everyone a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins.
He appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of YHWH, and to commemorate, to thank, and to praise YHWH, the God of Israel: Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, with stringed instruments and with harps; and Asaph with cymbals, sounding aloud; with Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually, before the ark of the covenant of God.
David’s Song of Thanksgiving
Then on that day David first ordained giving of thanks to YHWH by the hand of Asaph and his brothers.
Y’all give thanks to YHWH. Y’all call on ʜɪꜱ name. Y’all make ʜɪꜱ deeds known among the peoples. Y’all sing to ʜɪᴍ. Y’all sing praises to ʜɪᴍ. Y’all speak of all ʜɪᴍ marvelous works. Y’all boast in ʜɪꜱ holy name. Let the heart of those who seek YHWH rejoice. Y’all seek YHWH and ʜɪꜱ strength. Y’all seek ʜɪꜱ face forever more. Y’all Remember the marvelous works ʜᴇ has done, ʜɪꜱ wonders, and the judgments of ʜɪꜱ mouth, O seed of Israel ʜɪꜱ servant, you children of Jacob, ʜɪꜱ chosen ones.Hᴇ is YHWH our God. Hɪꜱ judgments are in all the earth. Y’all remember ʜɪꜱ covenant forever, the word which ʜᴇ commanded to a thousand generations, the covenant which he made with Abraham, his oath to Isaac. He confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant, saying, “I will give you the land of Canaan, The portion of y’all’s inheritance,” y’all were but few in number, when yes, very few, and foreigners in it. They went about from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people. Hᴇ allowed no man to do them wrong. Hᴇ reproved kings for their sakes, Y’all are not to touch my anointed ones! “ Y’all must not harm my prophets!”
Y’all sing to YHWH, all the earth! Y’all announce ʜɪꜱ salvation day after day. Y’all declare ʜɪꜱ glory among the nations, and ʜɪꜱ marvelous works among all the peoples. For great is YHWH and highly praised. Hᴇ is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but YHWH made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before ʜɪᴍ. Strength and gladness are in ʜɪꜱ place.
Y’all ascribe to YHWH, families of the peoples, ascribe to YHWH glory and strength! Y’all ascribe to YHWH the glory due to ʜɪꜱ name. Y’all bring an offering and come before ʜɪꜱ. Y’all worship YHWH in holy array. Y’all tremble before ʜɪᴍ, all the earth. The world is firmly established, it can’t be moved. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice! Let them say among the nations, “YHWH reigns!” Let the sea roar, and all it that is in it! Let the field exult, and all that is in it! Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before YHWH, for ʜᴇ comes to judge the earth. Y’all give thanks to YHWH, for ʜᴇ is good, for ʜɪꜱ lovingkindness endures forever. Y’all are to say, “Save us, God of our salvation! Gather us together and deliver us from the nations, to give thanks to your holy name, to triumph in your praise.” Blessed be YHWH, the God of Israel, from everlasting even to everlasting.
All the people said, “Amen,” and praised YHWH.
So he left Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of YHWH’s covenant, to minister before the ark continually, as every day’s work required; and Obed-Edom with their sixty-eight relatives; Obed-Edom also the son of Jeduthun and Hosah to be doorkeepers; and Zadok the priest and his brothers the priests, before YHWH’s tabernacle in the high place that was at Gibeon, to offer burnt offerings to YHWH on the altar of burnt offering continually morning and evening, even according to all that is written in YHWH’s law, which he commanded to Israel; and with them Heman and Jeduthun and the rest who were chosen, who were mentioned by name, to give thanks to YHWH, because his lovingkindness endures forever; and with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should sound aloud, and with instruments for the songs of God, and the sons of Jeduthun to be at the gate. All the people departed, each man to his house; and David returned to bless his house.
