The Birth of Jesus

Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened this way: His mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Joseph, her husband, being a righteous person, and not wanting to make her a public example, intended to send her away secretly. But when he had considered this, look, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because the one who has been fathered in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

Now all this has happened to fulfill what was said by the Lord through the prophet:

“Look! the virgin will conceive, and will give birth to a son. They will call his name Immanuel,” which is, means, “God with us.”+Isa 7:14

Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him. He took his wife, but he didn’t know her sexually until she had given birth to a son. He named him Jesus.
